Welcome To My Third Term
Welcome
Welcome to my third term, for the next few months I will continue to test myself and try to improve myself in my projects. Trying to use new techniques and above all expanding my studio on artists, photographers, etc.
In this post, I would like to talk about Cindy Sherman.
Cindy Sherman is an American photographer and director born in 1954 and considered one of the protagonists of contemporary art, in particular, during her career, she has carried out research on the construction of the identity of various media: film, television, magazines, the internet, and art. In the same way, she tackles the problems of the representation of women, a subject developed by numerous American feminist artists. (Cindy Sherman)
I chose here to inspire my welcome post because as it is interesting how she develops herself in her photographs as well as her feminist spirit. Moreover, she realizes interesting pictures thanks also using wigs, costumes, make-up, prosthetics, and props. Since childhood the artist had a passion for disguises, in particular, she loved disguising herself as an elderly woman. Her works are often left untitled,
leaving the viewer free to imagine a story and a possible title.
She began to put together a photo album and under each image, she wrote the sentence several times:
"it's me".
This anecdote seems strange, Cindy's best-known works are staging in which she refuses to reveal this "I" identifying with roles that cancel one's identity. This made me think about how now society eliminates our true identity and we begin to change ourselves that society can accept us. It is not a simple concept to express and that society accepts your extravagance if it can be called extravagance. Interesting how she expresses herself through photos and confidently manages to give the title "It's me".
