Mental Jail
Mental Jail
For my project, I thought a lot about how to connect the world of manga with the theme because I absolutely wanted to develop my project on manga or rather a manga in particular, even if I am undecided between two that represent real-life situations. In the manga, there is a lot of talk about life and delicate topics of life are also dealt with. The two manga are Nana and Paradise Kiss, I am more inclined to develop the first manga for my project, the choice lies in the fact that in Nana I can choose and face different themes to represent in my collection, such as abandonment, prostitution, love, and much more. The connection with black that I have decided to face will be particular to develop as I have decided to use black as a basic palette for my garments since the manga are black and white and this made me think about the fact of white that represents the light and black, on the other hand, darkness and I really want to focus on this factor. Black represents the dark part of life and the dark part that every person has inside of him and that only some people are given the opportunity to know it. So I want to represent the dark side of Nana's characters. Furthermore, another factor that I will develop is the silhouette that black gives to the body especially of a woman, black from my point view is also used to create a breastplate as if with a black dress you can conquer and be sure themselves.
As you can see the name of my project is mental jail, just to represent the mental prison that sometimes we create for ourselves but also that we create and we do not get rid of it. As already mentioned in previous posts, the style I chose to create my collection is streetwear with a hint of elegant style.
"No matter how much, or how often people hurt each other, loving someone is never a waste"

This is an interesting idea that you can use as part of your primary research - a survey on how people behaved during lockdown in terms of the clothes they wore, their daily routines, how they felt about being in a 'mental prison' etc. I think it would be useful in terms of giving you insights into the type or kind of manga you research for your secondary research.
