Project: Second Thoughts
De Chirico
But what is metaphysical painting? The term was chosen by the artists themselves, Carrà and De Chirico, to indicate a moment of their own pictorial research and a critical attitude towards contemporary art.
The meaning attributed to the word metaphysics has never been formulated with precision, but the style is characterized by images that convey a sense of mystery and hallucination that can be linked to the definition of metaphysics as that which transcends physical matter. This enigmatic effect was achieved in part by using unreal perspectives and lights, in part through the adoption of a strange specific iconography. Later the term metaphysics indicated a painting of literary evocation and suggestion of a figurative setting.
The term metaphysics refers to a way of presenting the painted scene that goes beyond the immediate perception of the subject. Metaphysical art must lead the viewer to deeper and more interior suggestions, to that sense of mystery that would go beyond the apparent sense of objects and presences.
My intent is to take inspiration from the paintings of this Italian painter to represent them within my drawings of the collection. I had thought of starting to study and understand this artistic current in a way, in fact, I wanted to do more in-depth research on some of De Chirico's paintings. Most likely I will only choose a few to draw inspiration from. Studying paintings as he sees both the world within art but also how he represents his emotions of emptiness and how to represent my vision in my collection is still to be experimented in my head since in this last period I have doubted a lot of my ideas. Surely even while I will do some research, I will already begin to write down some drawings to better feed my imagination.
